  Mumbai Road Show Asks Converters to Optimise Business
With DuPont and Weldon Celloplast urging to catch-up with world trends


Indian consumer market is ever changing and is getting quality conscious in their limited budget. The package printing and production industry meets with the specific requirements of product manufacturer and the community under pressure is that of the converters. The crowd pulling sub-event of the Mumbai Road Show were the technical sessions addressed by Vijay Ramachandran of DuPont and Harveer Sigh Sahni of Weldon Celloplast who urged the industry to turn to the rising demands aided with technology. The third Road Show to the forthcoming India Converting Show 2003 and India Flexo Show 2003, took place on 3rd of May at Jade Garden. Desserts

In 2002 worldwide, flexo grew 95 percent in paper bags, 85 percent in flexible packaging, 80 percent in corrugated boxes and 40 percent in the folding carton industry and labels. This new wave in the converting industry doesn’t leave any head unturned. The retail market is a jungle and the consumer behavior is ever changing. Thus comes in the rising demand for top quality print requirements in short runs in limited budget. This has helped flexo make inroads into the traditional gravure market. Vijay Ramachandran of DuPont threw light on this new growing segment in package printing in his presentation here on Saturday evening.

Talking through the components of the self-adhesive label stocks and the part they play in label converting, Harveer Singh Sahni explained the issues confronted by label printers, specific paper requirements, new trends in adhesives, increased responsibilities of synthetic face materials, aesthetics, release liners and other aspects of labels. Sahni stressed on the need of integrating the latest in this field to get equal with the best labels in the world.

Earlier during the day, 22 representatives from the package printing and production industry had spread out their catalogues in the Catalogue Show during the day. The third stop in the Road Show list materialised when companies in this part of the country met and talked business across the table where catalogues where displayed all day long. Visitors and media men kept the venue of busy at Nehru Centre, Worli. Jumpstarting from the capital on 18th of April, the BeePasha bandwagon camped at Ludhiana and reached her home city Mumbai.

The special guests for the evening were Anand Limaye, General Secretary of AIFMP and President of Mumbai Mudrak Sangh and Surendra Kapur, President LMAI. Kapur praised the organisers for staging an event of this nature. ``The industry is indebted to Anil Arora for having found such focused areas in the industry and dispersing knowledge of new technologies by means of such value added events,`` said Limaye while congratulating the efforts of the organisers.

``I am glad to find the crowd as good as in the Road Show for India Label Show 2002. Following the blue print of the pre-event Road Shows during the India Label Show 2002 has been a success in New Delhi and Ludhiana and I hope the day was eventful to all our participants here,`` said Anil Arora while addressing the crowd before presenting the event details of the September events.

Info Package 2003, the international conference on trends and technologies for cost optimisation in package production coming up this September was introduced to the gathering here by PV Narayan, Director SIES School of Package. The school is the organiser of this event sponsored by Print-Packaging.com. The conference is a part of the converting and flexo events in New Delhi this September.

The next Road Show is scheduled for 5th of June at Chennai. Other destinations in the inter-city Road Show list are Bangalore on 7th of June, Ahmedabad on 5th of July and Indore on 31st of July.
