It was world environment day on June 5th, when BeePasha came to Chennai. Chennai road show for the forthcoming India Converting Show and India Flexo Show 2003 was staged at the GRT Grand Days. The catalogue show had 17 participants exhibiting their catalogues all day long. Over 350 people visited them, not only from Chennai but also from Sivakasi, Tirupur and Coimbatore. The companies who participated here were: CH Java & Company, Weldon Celloplast Ltd,Hitkari Industries Ltd.,Kunal Enterprise, Creed Engineers,Princessa Overseas Pvt. Ltd., Rational Business Corporation, Birla 3M, Kurz (India), Imaje India Pvt. Ltd., Press Ideas The Chennai dais had Anu Varghese, President, Madras Printers and Lithographers Association along with Venkataraman, President of South Indian Corrugated Box Manufaturers Association. The evening session started with Anil Arora, Director, Print-Packaging, giving a detailed report on the road shows which happened at Delhi, Ludhiana and Mumbai - the earlier stops where BeePasha got down from her wagon heading towards the main September show. The technical seminars in the evening had Srinivasan Nachiappan from Esko Graphics giving an insight to Antony Conway’s presentation proposed for Info Package 2003. The topic was ‘Digital work flow for flexo printing’ and a plethora of new softwares, which can help package designers and printers, be up-to-date with the latest and the best in technology. He urged the audience to be there at Pragati Maidan for the detailed presentation of Conway and the other experts from India and across the globe. Amit Ray from Flex Industries Limited compiled a total assessment of the growth of flexible packaging market in India along with its prospects in future. Ray’s presentation included statistics and studies that strengthened the popular phrase that ‘the future is flexible’. He also identified the key growth areas and the strategies required for not only surviving but also growing in the present competitive times. PV Narayan, Director, SIES School of Packaging told the gathering what the Info Package 2003, international conference will address. Narayanan observed that by 2005 there would be 2.5 organised marketing outlets in India. This McKinsey and CII report suggests that the packaging demand in FMCG and other consumer products would multiply thus giving more reasons for the current industry to gear up. Vijay Gupta, Vice President, Sicpa India Limited gave the vote of thanks appreciating the organisers to have carried yet another successful road show in yet another city.
