Core Group Gives Shape To The Contours Of The Largest Packaging Exhibition
Visitor campaign planned in three locations

`The coming together of the four niche shows has set the stage for the largest packaging exhibition seen in the industry,` said Anil Arora of Print-Packaging.com (P) Ltd. addressing the Core Group gathering at the Habitat Center in New Delhi on the 13 April 2007. He was referring to the co-location of India Packaging Show, India Converting Show, India Flexo Show and India Corrugated Show from 21-24 August 2007 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

The group included stalwarts from leading industries and trade associations. Windmoller & Holscher (India) Pvt. Ltd, Mico Bosch, SNS Containers Pvt. Ltd., Bharat Packaging, Multiply Packaging, Kiran Enterprises, Arvind Packaging Industries, Rajoo Enggineering, Imaje India Pvt. Ltd., Indian Institute of Packaging, Flex Industries, Kumar Printers, Weldon Celloplast Ltd., Paharpur 3P, Flexo Image Graphics Pvt Ltd., Packolabel Systems Pvt Ltd, NICMA and UPCBMA were the organisations represented in the group.

The core group has traditionally been the mainstay of the detailed planning that precedes the promotional campaign and the conference of each of the event organised by the company. The enthusiasm with which the members contribute to the brainstorming has resulted in the events being perceived as one that truly reflect the latest industry trends.

The group was given a detailed background of the events and the rationale of bringing the shows together. “Each of the event has a separate visitor focus. Together the shows will attract packaging buyers, printers, converters, corrugated box makers and the industry suppliers in large numbers making the event a complete packaging exhibition,” predicted Arora. He also gave an update of the booking confirmations and other developments related to the event. A brief was also given about the AIMCAL summer school that would be collocated with the event.

The meeting deliberated on the venues to hold the promotional events. It was decided to organise the India Package Meet at Indore, Kanpur and Roorkee during the month of June. It was also suggested that in the next edition of the event, the promotional campaign should cover cities like Guwhati and Sikkim. A detailed itinerary would be drawn up and circulated by the organisers at the earliest. The meets would follow the established format of having a half-day conference and a daylong tabletop exhibition.

A detailed discussion ensued on the structure and theme of the PackAge conference to be held along with the exhibition. It emerged that ‘Packaging for Retail’ should be the focus of the conference. The two-day conference would have four separate sessions and tracks but bound by a common theme. The separate tracks would cover converting, flexography printing, packaging and corrugated box making.

The members agreed to forward their views on the possible speakers and subjects over the following month.

“The event seems to be shaping well and looks set to fulfill its claim of being the largest packaging show in the country. Should that happen, it will be the first step in consolidating the fragmentation in the exhibition scene in this industry,” opined Rakesh Shah, Country Head, Windmoller & Holcher.
